What is Proficiency-Based Education
What is Proficiency-based education?

Students advance upon demonstrated mastery-By advancing upon demonstrated proficiency rather than at the end of a course or semester, students are more engaged, and teachers can direct their efforts to where students need the most help.

Proficiencies and performance indicators include detailed, measurable, and transferable learning objectives- Clear learning targets empower students to take ownership of their education

Students receive the support they need based upon their individual learning plan-Staff provide students with the support, time, and flexibility they need to learn and demonstrate the skills and knowledge to successfully transition to post-secondary life.

N.E.W. Innovation’s proficiency based education centers on the creation, development, and application of knowledge- Personalized learning meets each student where they are, gets them where they need to be, and guides them where they want to go. A N.E.W. Innovation graduate has the tools necessary to transition successfully to post-secondary school, the high demand careers of tomorrow or life.

Is N.E.W Innovation for all students?
Students from many different backgrounds can thrive in a proficiency-based education environment. N.E.W Innovation is intentionally designed to meet the needs of individual students.

Is this actual instruction?
One of the hallmarks of proficiency-based education is student support and regular interaction with staff. Although the delivery might look different from traditional schools, students are still learning from subject matter experts and being supported by wrap around services.
